While I really appreciate the honor. you for a second time confer on me I regret you have not taken me more into your confidence respecting your worldly prospects for as I told you six months ago that was the only reason I had in hesitating to give my consent; for while I have the fullest confidence in your honor and good intentions. I know that young people are over sanguine and hopeful and consider the sentimental side of such a question rather than the material which I am sorry to say after all is the most enduring. However to relieve you from suspense, I give my consent, but I hope you will not misunderstand me. If I ask you to write me more fully on the above subject and to regard me always as your friend and wellwisher. AW Moffatt."
